This dynamic professional learning is a one day program (Tuesday 17 March 2020) for Years 9-12 teachers and teaching assistants working with students with emerging literacy skills and/or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
The program will be delivered by Dr Rachael Jacobs from the University of Western Sydney.
Program participants will engage in creative, practical activities supported by teaching and learning resources which can be adapted for a diverse range of learners and classroom contexts.
- The program cost is $50 and will include a catered morning tea and lunch.

Creative pedagogies will be explored that develop students’ literacy skills through story, imagination and embodiment. Collaboration between learners will be emphasised to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
This program aims to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge to make the EAL/D and literacy classroom highly engaging and innovative. Participants will be introduced to new research on translanguaging, language acquisition and creative literacy pedagogies.
The program will discuss ways to make classrooms more inclusive and build connections in the learning environment across cultures.
